Assiut University (AU) was established in 1952 in the city of Assiut, and it is the fourth Egyptian public university in terms of the history of establishment and the first university to be established in Upper Egypt.
Assiut University harnesses its potentials and directs it to achieve its vision by providing the required education in the present and in the future. In addition to preparing generations that are able to compete in the labor market at the local and international levels, and are eligible for excellence in developing scientific research, technology and research programs that contribute to the development of society within the framework of the university's ethics. The university also aims to be the pioneer in creating a knowledge society.
The number of faculties of the university is 17 colleges:
College of Science - College of Engineering - College of Agriculture - College of Medicine - College of Pharmacy - College of Veterinary Medicine - College of Commerce - College of Education - College of Law - College of Physical Education - College of Nursing - College of Specific Education - College of Education in New Valley - College of Social Work - College of Arts - College of Computers and Information - College of Dentistry
And two institutes, namely the Institute for Research and Technology of Sugar Industry - South Egypt Institute of Oncology.
Assiut University (AU) Hospitals is considered one of the largest and oldest educational and therapeutic university hospitals at the level of the Republic of Egypt.
The university hospitals include the main university hospital, the women's health hospital, the university children’s hospital, the institute of oncology hospital, the students ’hospital, the brain, nerves, neuropsychology and kidney and urology center (under construction). This is in addition to the Heart Diseases and Surgery Institute and Al-Rajhi Liver Center, which are under construction.
Assiut University (AU) Hospitals also includes one of the largest microscopic surgery units in Egypt and the Arab world, which is the Microscopic Surgery Unit of the University's Orthopedic Department, which was established in 1995.
