Aswan University branch was established as a branch of Assiut University in 1974, and in 1995 Presidential Decree No. 23 was issued to establish South Valley University, with the university branch becoming affiliated with South Valley University with the establishment of three colleges (Social Service - Arts - Engineering). In 2012, Presidential Decree No. (311) was issued to establish Aswan University as an independent Egyptian government university, and the establishment of new colleges continued until the number of colleges became 18, in addition to the Institute of Nursing, the Institute for Research and African Studies and the Nile Basin countries. The main campus is located in the Sahara city in Aswan on Airport Road on an area of 400 acres and includes 8 colleges so far, which are the Faculties: Energy Engineering, Agriculture, Physical Education, Science, Veterinary Medicine, Physical Education and Social Service.It also includes the new administrative building, Aswan University Sports Stadium and a set of multi-purpose sports fields. And the Olympic swimming pool, beach ball courts, faculty of science laboratories, new garage, university car maintenance workshops, summer and winter theater, and university clock. The new campus of the university is located in the third district of New Aswan on an area of 98.5 acres and includes 9 buildings containing the College of Arts and Law, the House of Science, Nursing, Medicine, Tourism, Hotels, Al-Alsun, Archeology, Commerce, Dentistry, university medical facilities and specialized medical centers in New Aswan, which are being implemented. It also includes the first and second terraces complex, where each amphitheater was built on an area of 3 thousand square meters and includes a ground floor and a first and accommodates 700 students each and is equipped with the latest technological systems in acoustics and lighting. University cities of Aswan University number 5 university cities, including 3 for girls and 2 for boys. University cities receive about 3 thousand students, while they absorb about 12.5% of the number of university students. Aswan University achieved an advanced ranking in the (THE) classification at the level of Arab universities, as Aswan University achieved an advanced position among the top ten Arab universities
